A UK Collaborative Study to Determine the Genetic Basis of Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis (UK-PSC)

UK-PSC is a collaborative venture between NHS Trusts across the UK, researchers and patient groups aimed at improving our understanding of PSC and the way it impacts on the lives of patients. People of all ages (including children) with PSC are encouraged to join.

Inclusion Criteria :
Adults (16y and older)
- Patients who are diagnosed with and managed as having primary sclerosing cholangitis or autoimmune sclerosing cholangitis
- Patients that have received an orthotopic liver transplant for PSC are also eligible
- Exclusion Criteria : Sclerosing cholangitis resulting from a secondary cause, e.g. congenital biliary tree abnormalities, previous biliary surgery, bile duct carcinoma, HIV cholangiopathy, Primary Biliary Cholangitis, sarcoid, graft-versus-host disease, sickle cell disease and immunodeficiency related cholangiopathy and drug reactions. Collaborating investigators recruiting to the PSC project should ensure that secondary causes of an abnormal cholangiogram have been excluded.
